Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and students,

Our term has come to an end, and what an eventful term it has been! In the past we have distributed interim reports by mail, however this year we will be handing them out with the students before the completion of the term. In addition to the hard copy, you can view your child’s marks online on SEQTA.

Our fundraising programs have run successfully this year, with our school leaders and students from year 7-12 participating in these efforts. Money collected by the College will be donated to the Empathy International Aid Organisation to help people all around the world. Thank you to SRC coordinator Ms Nur Elif Ankara and Ozlem Arslan and their SRC representatives for organising a wonderful program and decorating the school for harmony day.

Our mentoring program for students has commenced. Currently, there are two graduates of Sirius College providing us with additional help for students who are in need of academic assistance. They are helping students in variety of areas such as English, Maths, Science and Humanities. Their assistance is not only academically beneficial, but they are also fantastic role models. Thank you very much Ms Eda Baskocak and her team for organising such a valuable platform for our kids.

We have many extracurricular activities and programs planned for 2017. Extra VCE classes have started for our VCE Unit 3 & 4 classes. Our most popular classes, English, Maths, Chemistry and Biology have fortnightly afterschool classes, providing our students an opportunity to further excel and refine their studies. Furthermore, holiday classes have also been organised. For specific details, please keep in contact with the VCE coordinator, Mrs. Kevser Gunduz. Moreover, our pastoral care teachers have started their programs, where students are provided with extra classes and welfare activities. Thank you very much to all the teachers for their efforts.

Our “learning by doing” teaching philosophy is in place. There are currently three electives for this purpose, which are Robotics, Science Project and Agriculture. As apart of the Science elective, Mr Jamie Astill will be accompanying students to the USA to represent us in an international competition. Thank you very much to their elective teachers, Jamie Astill and our students for their hard work. We are also looking forward to our robotics competition this year too. Farming and Agriculture has settled as our chickens have made Sirius College their home, laying their eggs efficiently. These organic eggs are delicious and I highly recommend you buy them in support of our farming students. Special thanks to our students for taking such great care of our animals and vegies.

Finally we would like to wish our maths, science and physics teacher Mr Consti all the best as he leaves us for new adventures. We will miss his sense of humour and teaching style, he is a valuable member of our team and we hope he’ll visit us. We will miss you and all the best for you in the future. Ms Elif Karacan will also be leaving us temporarily on maternity leave. We look forward to meeting our new family member.

I would like to finish with a quote from a well know scholar Mevlana Jalaladdin Rumi. He gives 7 pieces of advice to us;

In generosity and helping others, be like a river
In compassion and grace, be like sun
In concealing others’ faults, be like night
In anger and fury, be like dead
In modesty and humility, be like earth
In tolerance, be like a sea
Either exists as you, as you are, or be as you look

Warm Regards,

Principal
Mr Mehmet Cicek
